The annual Tom Sparks Memorial Golf Tournament was once again held in Las Vegas, where over 40 of his closes friends and family members were on hand to keep Tom’s memory alive, and to give a helping hand to an aspiring journalist student.
Our colleague Tom had been a recent graduate from the Annenberg USC School of Journalism at the time of his passing. His life now lives on through his memorial scholarship, which now has it’s first recipient. Kay Chinn, the first to be recipient of the scholarship was in attendance, which gave her a better sense of who Tom was all about.
After his passing, Tom’s family looked for a way to keep his memory alive, but also for a way to give back. That is how the Memorial Golf Tournament came way.
He had just graduated from the Annenberg School of Journalism at USC. We thought, what a great way to perpetuate his memory by supporting someone, through the school, who would be following in his footsteps and in a way taking over what he would have done.

Kay Chinn was excited and honored to be the first recipient, and undoubtably grateful for the award. It has supported her study here, which without the scholarship she was not able to be here.
While the tournament certainly provided its share of fun for Tom’s friends and family, it’s the celebration of Tom Spark’s special life, that is certain to continue this event and provide a helping hand for aspiring journalist through his memory.
