The #LoveLikeDawson Campaign has helped the children of Thailand and America’s homeless population

The #LoveLikeDawson campaign has spread across the globe – influencing others to love in a selfless, unconditional way. Dawson Hartwig had a huge heart for others, no matter who they were or where they were from.

Money raised through his foundation, LoveLikeDawson.net, will be used for projects to help children in Thailand, Cambodia, and Haiti this year and beyond. All proceeds from Dawson’s charity are being donated to Global Outreach at Water of Life in Fontana CA.

The churches recent Mission Trip to Thailand, the trip Dawson had signed up to be on, was able to donate a check in Dawson’s honor to build an infant care center for children in need.

Not only is my Grandpa – commonly known as Papa – a Marine Corps Veteran, basically a professional ukulele player and Starbuck’s #1 fan, but he also has a heart bigger than most of us combined.

Papa was inspired by the #LoveLikeDawson movement to do his part and show some love to the world so he decided to find a new way to help the homeless by inventing the “Love Like Dawson Cart.”

It started with an idea that quickly turned into reality with items as simple as PVC pipe, a piece of wood, a plastic bin and a tarp. When it all came together, he created a cart that holds personal belongings, can be used as a chair and folds out into a bed for the owner to sleep in.  That way, the owner can fill the cart section up with their belongings, push it around during the day and pull out the cot to actually have something to sleep on through the night (my Papa’s a SAINT, I know!).

Inside the main storage section of the cart, there is a plastic container with a lid to store things like food and personal belongings. He also included a cabled lock to secure all items from theft.

PLUS, the cart has a foldable tarp so when the weather’s rough, the owner can pull out the tarp, cover everything up using the bungee cords attached and stay completely dry.

All in all, the cart is extremely light wight so it’s easy to maneuver around. It measures about 24 x 24 x 36 and only costs $130 to make from scratch. Think about it – that’s only $130 to supply someone with what is, to them, their entire home.

This cart is so easy to make, really anyone can do it. So, if you’re feeling inspired to #LoveLikeDawson, I encourage you to make a cart of your own and give it away to someone in need. Papa gave his first one away to the Salvation Army to inspire them with the idea and allow for more to be made.

Some of the people we see out on the streets have never slept on something other than the ground throughout their entire life. To someone who probably often times feels unloved and invisible, a gift like this would mean the world.

Deuteronomy 15:11 “For there will never cease to be poor in the land. Therefore I command you, ‘You shall open wide your hand to your brother, to the needy and to the poor, in your land.’”
