Winemaking 101 at the Sonoma County Harvest Fair

In wine country, Sonoma is sometimes referred to as “Napa‘s younger sibling.” Yet with its rich history and artisan community, Sonoma is a star in its own right.

That’s why California Life’s, Monique Soltani headed out the the Sonoma County Harvest Fair to give us a little wine-making 101 in honor of National Wine Month.

With autumn in full swing, wine makers from across the golden state hustled to get their hands on this year’s harvest. There’s a lot of hard work that goes on all year round to produce the finest, wine-worthy grapes. It’s the price for perfection.

Emmett Reed, Winemaker from Gustafson Family Vineyards, explains what it means to harvest as he said, “If you’re doing your job, you’re really just shepherding the wine through the winery. You’ve already done all the hard work growing it, so now you’re just taking of the wine, making sure that you get the purest expression of the vineyard, the land and the varietal.”
